Federal Tax

Federal law requires federal income tax be withheld from the monthly retirement benefit, unless members instruct the ERS to do otherwise. 

State Tax

The retirement benefit may be subject to state income tax. Members should consult with a tax advisor about the laws that apply in the state of residence.
