On July 25, 2018, Seat Pleasant municipal officials kicked-off the Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Boulevard (MD 704) Streetscape Enhancement PAMC* project with planning staff, consultants, and State Highway Administration representatives. The Director of Economic Development, Mr. Weyimi Ayu, led the meeting in the City Council chambers that preceded a tour of the study area. In discussing the project objective, to obtain design plans for MD 704 improvements that accommodate pedestrians, bicyclists, and cars, and advance the economic development goals of the City, participants got to understand each other's perspectives. On the tour of the study area, Weyimi Ayu, Councilwoman Gloria Sistrunk, and the Grants Manager Kyrthlyn Rhoda accompanied the transportation planning consultants from STV, Inc., Seth Young and Michael Guiliano, and the planning staff: Fred Stachura, Wendy Irminger, Fred Shaffer, Judy D'Ambrosi, Bryan Barnett-Woods and Tamika Henderson. Two summer interns also experienced the initiation of this planning project: Andrew Chambers, with MNCPPC Planning Department, and Mark, with the City of Seat Pleasant.
