Mission and Vision Statements

Throughout 80 plus years of service, The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission has endeavored to improve the quality of life for all of the citizens of the bi-county area it serves and of the communities in which these citizens live, work and raise their families. This mission is embodied in three major program areas. These major program areas respond to the vision of our founders and are incorporated into our charter. The Mission of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission is to:

Manage physical growth and plan communities
Protect and steward natural, cultural and historic resources
Provide leisure and recreational experiences.

Planning Department Mission Statement

The Planning Department's role and purpose are best described in our mission statement:

To help preserve, protect and manage the County's resources by providing the highest quality planning services and growth management guidance and by facilitating effective intergovernmental and citizen involvement through education and technical assistance.

Planning Department Vision Statement

The Planning Department always strives to serve the community in a knowledgeable and professional manner in concert with our vision:

To be a model planning department composed of responsive staff who provide superior planning and technical services and work cooperatively with decision-makers, citizens and other agencies to continuously improve development quality and the environment and act as a catalyst for positive change.
