Environmental Setting Process and Site Evaluation Process How to Apply for a Change of Environmental Setting An Environmental Setting is defined as the entire parcel of land within the boundaries delineated as of the date the historic resource was created on the master plan for historic preservation, and to which it related physically and/or visually, as determined by the Commission. -
Request for Application Form: Click here for an Environmental Setting application form or Obtain one from the Historic Preservation Section for the Countywide Planning Division located at 14741 Governor Oden Bowie Drive, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772 or you may call the office at 301-952-3520 to have a form mailed to you. -
Application Submission: Applications should be submitted or mailed to: - Historic Preservation and Public Facilities Planning Section Historic Preservation and Public Facilities Planning Section,
M-NCPPC, 14741 Governor Oden Bowie Drive, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772.
- After the completed application is received by the staff, a public
hearing before the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) will be
scheduled. The HPC meets on the third Tuesday of each month (except
August); an application must be received by the last business day of
the month before the scheduled hearing. Staff will notify the
appropriate municipality and county council representative.
Staff Recommendation: Preservation staff will visit and photograph the property and prepare maps, a staff report, and a recommendation for Environmental Setting boundaries. -
Historic Preservation Commission Meeting: During the public hearing the HPC will review staff recommendations and receive comments from the applicant and other interested parties. The applicant will be notified of the time and place of the meeting, and receive a copy of the staff recommendation. While attendance at the hearing is not mandatory, it is strongly recommended. -
Decision: An HPC decision regarding the boundaries of the Environmental Setting can be expected within 15 days after the close of the record. |
