2009 Prince George's County Quality of Life and Community Indicators Study (May 2009)
The 2009 Prince George's County Quality of Life and Community Indicators Study provides data to inform current policy discussions and decision-making. The study serves as a dynamic measurement tool that can support a variety of initiatives concerning the well-being of the people who live, work, play, go to school, or visit the county. This study presents subjective-qualitative and objective-quantitative indicators to monitor trends in economic, social, community, and environmental conditions in the county and the benchmark jurisdictions. It involves tracking indicators, both positive and negative, that reflect the trends in education, health, employment, income, housing, and public safety, among others.It tells where we are, how far we have come, and what critical areas need attention if we are to achieve our vision for the county. For the immediate future, the data will provide critical input to support the ongoing Envision Prince George's effort.

2008 Development Activity Trends Report for Prince George's County
The 2008 Development Activity Trends Report for Prince George’s County presents data and trends pertaining to rezoning, subdivision, and building activity that occurred during 2008. The review of development activity during 2008 provides a recent picture of growth trends in Prince George’s County. This report is intended to identify these trends and the direction of anticipated development. This document should prove useful for planning activities including land use planning, facilities planning, and market analysis.

Prince George's County Biotechnology Research and Development Center Study (September 2009)
The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) Prince George's County Planning selected the ANGLE Technology Team to define and evaluate the economic feasibility of establishing a biotechnology research and development center, inclusive of biomedical research, in Prince George's County, MD to promote economic and community development. The ANGLE Team for this study included RESI Research and Consulting at Towson University and Capital Development Design, Inc. a minority-owned civil engineering and land use firm in Beltsville, MD.

Economic Development "Cluster" Toolbox Update (January 2008)
The purpose of this project was to gather specific information to enhance the Toolbox as a practical guide for County Council, Planning Board, and county agencies. The research provided additional, essential, and current information to enable users to easily identify, assess, and utilize the most appropriate tools with the most potential to support specific projects and programs. Updated document lists ninety-five different tools, and includes brief descriptions, statutory references, implementation procedures, previous examples, and, where possible, assessments of the current and future potentials of the various tools, examples of projects that could benefit from particular tools, the required application procedures, and contact information.

Medical Mall Planning Study (December 2007)
This study evaluates the feasibility of medical mall type uses as a potential tool to revitalize underutilized or vacant shopping centers in the county.

Report of the Senior Living Market Study (January 2006)
The Information Center of the Prince George's County Planning Department of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission engaged the ProMatura Group, LLC to conduct an analysis of the senior housing market in Prince George's County.

Office Market Trends Study (December 2005)
This report will examine the trends and changes in the county’s
housing market over time in an effort to provide planners, citizens, and public officials with both an up-to-date, comprehensive housing study, and a logical point of departure in the development of strategic plans and realistic housing strategies.

Future of Agriculture in Prince George's County Study (May 2005)
This study describes the transformation of agriculture and its potential in the county. The report suggests ways to retain sustainable agricultural land and protect farmers’ equity in farmland by promoting profitable farming. It recommends diversification and marketing strategies for farmers to transform agriculture into a viable industry.


Projects and Studies in Progress

Alternative Adequate Public Facilities Requirements and Review Procedures for Transportation (Winter 2009)
This study will evaluate the county’s public facilities requirements for transportation, research best practices, propose alternative public facility requirements, and recommend alternative or enhanced legislation and administrative procedures. The goal of this study is to provide flexibility for managing traffic congestion where current public facility requirements and practices conflict with other goals of a targeted growth center or corridor.

Best Practices Survey for Economic Incentives (Summer 2009)
This is a best practices survey and assessment of national and regional incentives for commercial office space attraction and development. The study will identify appropriate incentives and provide guidance on their application in order to attract commercial office space to the county, including necessary variations for transit centers.

Biotechnology Research and Development Center Study (Early 2009)
This study will define and evaluate the feasibility of developing a biotechnology research and development center in the county to promote economic and community development. The study will identify the appropriate type of biotechnology and related market niche for the county, and opportunities to develop partnerships with area biotechnology and medical research institutions and academic institutions. Countywide Industrial Land Needs and Employment Study (Spring 2009)
The purpose of this study is to assess county industrial employment, land-use patterns, and real estate market trends; explore the fiscal and economic impacts of industrial land use and employment; and include an inventory and analysis of industrial and warehouse space. The study will provide policy-making bodies and decision-makers with essential information to support ongoing and future planning decisions regarding the designation and supply of industrial land to meet projected future demand.

Emerging Trends Report—Employment Trends Analysis (Spring 2009)
This is an economic and statistical analysis of county employment trends based on the Economic Census, the U.S. Department of Commerce Bureau of Economic Analysis data, the U.S. Census Bureau’s Local Employment Dynamics database, On the Map, and other data.

Housing Affordability Survey (Early 2009)
This countywide mail survey was conducted in spring 2008 to research the extent of housing cost burdens on residents, highlighting various population groups such as seniors, single-parent families, and selected groups of the workforce. The survey covers information regarding residents’ satisfaction with their current housing situations. It also solicited additional household information to assist with various county planning and policy initiatives.

International Office and Warehouse Incubator Facility Feasibility Study (Winter 2009)
This consultant study defines and evaluates the feasibility of establishing an international warehouse and office incubator at Steeplechase 95 International Business Park in Prince George’s County that would target the needs of (1) small-to-medium-sized companies in and outside of Maryland engaged in global trade; and (2) foreign companies seeking to penetrate US markets. The study will examine economic and community development “inside the Beltway” in an Enterprise Zone and Foreign Trade Zone in accordance with the 2002 General Plan goals for the county.

Occupational Shifts and Workforce Characteristics Study (Spring 2010)
This study will identify industries with an aging workforce and occupations with growth potential to assist decision makers in formulating appropriate policies to improve the jobs to population ratio and meet current and future local workforce demand. This study will examine county, regional, and national occupational and workforce trends relative to the county’s in order to project workforce demand by type and to evaluate the potential impact of occupational trends and projections on Prince George’s County’s economic environment.

Report on County Economic Conditions—An Investigation of the Big Seven (Summer 2009)
A fairly detailed comparative analysis will be constructed using the big seven (Baltimore City and Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Harford, Howard, Montgomery, and Prince George’s counties) based on data from such sources as the Census Bureau, the US Bureau of Economic Analysis, and various state agencies. Data evaluated will include financial information such as income tax receipts, sales tax data, and real property assessments.

Report on County Economic Conditions—Statistical Comparison with Benchmark Jurisdictions (Summer 2009)
This study will provide county officials with statistics to evaluate the level of progress achieved since the implementation of the General Plan. During the formulation of the General Plan, a consultant along with staff identified a number of jurisdictions that the county could use as benchmarks to be used in the growth policy update.

Shopping Center Directory (July 2010)
The 2008 Prince George's County Shopping Center Directory contains an inventory of shopping centers in the county with descriptive information and an analysis of county retail sales. The analysis examines past and recent trends, vacancy characteristics, new shopping center construction, and various shopping center types in the county. The directory includes basic data such as shopping center name, location, owner/developer, year opened, gross leasable area, leasing contacts, and tenant information.

Workforce Housing Market Study (Winter 2009)
This study will consist of an assessment of workforce housing trends and implications for projected demand and include policy recommendations for the preservation and/or expansion of workforce housing to meet current and projected demand associated with population, economic growth, and escalating residential property values.
