Frequently Asked Questions

How can I find projections for future population, dwelling unit, household, and employment growth for the county?

The Research Section prepares the Planning Department’s cooperative forecasts. This forecast estimates the timing and location of population, household, dwelling unit, and employment growth in the county. For questions about the cooperative forecast, call 301-952-3627.

How can I find current or historical population statistics for the county?

The U.S Census Bureau is the primary source of county population statistics used by the Research Section. Data products from the Census Bureau are available at American Fact Finder. Population data for the county and its jurisdictions are also available at the Research Section’s Facts and Figure page and the Maryland State Data Center. For assistance finding data or navigating these sites, call 301-780-8310.
