The Prince George's County Planning Department's Community Planning Division of M-NCPPC is responsible for preparing and processing area master plans, Sectional Map Amendments (SMAs) and community and special study area plans to provide guidance for future development and redevelopment. Community planners work with residents and community stakeholders to identify priorities for communities, create long-range plans, and identify implementation strategies. For community planners to be successful when developing a master plan it is crucial to have active citizen involvement from all aspects of a community. A successful planning process relies on strong partnerships and clear communication between residents and planning staff. The roles and responsibilities of planning staff and the community are posted below in order to further clarify how planning staff will interact with residents during the planning process.

The Community Planning Division works with the support of other Prince George's County Planning Divisions such as Development Review, Environmental, Historic Preservation, Information Management, Research, and Transportation. Working directly with staff ensures a strong technical basis for our plans on these topics.
