Public Meeting Summaries

The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) concluded its community outreach efforts on April 12, 2008, with a community planning workshop at the Four Points Sheraton in New Carrollton, MD. At this meeting, the M-NCPPC staff and consultant team presented draft design concepts and implementation strategies for community review and comment. The presentation was preceded and followed by an open house during which participants were able to review the design concepts more closely and provide feedback to the project team. The meeting was attended by more than 80 people and included lively debate and active participation from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Elected officials who attended the workshop included 3rd-District Councilman Eric Olson, Mayor Andrew Hanko and Council Members Katrina Dodro, Lisa Fenton, and David Anderson of New Carrollton.

A summary of issues identified by community members and stakeholders is available here for April 2008 and here for December 2007

Copies of the December 2007 and April 2008 meeting presentations are available here.

Adoption and Approval of the New Carrollton Transit District Development Plan

The Prince George's County Planning Board adopted the Preliminary New Carrollton Transit District Development Plan and Proposed Transit District Overlay Zoning Map Amendment on September 10, 2009. The adopted plan was received by the District Council in October 2009. On February 16, 2010, the District Council proposed amendments to the adopted plan (CR-11-2010) and set a date of March 23, 2010, for a public hearing on the council amendments to the plan. An unsigned copy of CR-11-2010 may be downloaded from the link provided on this project's main page.

The next opportunity for public input will be the second public hearing on the proposed District Council amendments to the Adopted New Carrollton Transit District Development Plan and Endorsed Transit District Overlay Zoning Map Amenment. This hearing is scheduled to take place at 7:00 p.m. on March 23, 2010. Final District Council approval of the New Carrollton TDDP/TDOZ is tentatively scheduled for early May 2010.
