Purple Line TOD Study
On October 7, 2011, Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley announced that the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) had received federal approval to proceed with preliminary engineering (PE) and preparation of a final environmental impact statement (FEIS) for the Purple Line light rail transit (LRT) project. In conjunction with MTA’s startup of the PE/FEIS, the Prince George’s County Planning Department of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) is working with local residents, business owners, and other key community stakeholders to develop transit-oriented community plans for five Purple Line station areas that are not within approved sector or transit district development plan areas. The five stations that are part of the study are: As the first step in the process, the Prince George's County Planning Department has sponsored a series of public meetings to discuss future transit-oriented development (TOD) opportunities and challenges along the future Purple Line Corridor. During our upcoming second round of community workshops, we invite you to join us to develop a vision for the areas near the planned light rail stations.
