Introduction

The Historic Preservation Element of the 2002 Adopted and Approved General Plan defines as a countywide goal the identification and evaluation of all historic resources for designation as historic sites or as contributing to historic districts. The General Plan reminds us that:
The protection of historic sites and districts within Prince George's County accomplishes more than just providing reminders of the county's past. Their protection provides a link to the county's past while recognizing their role in the county's present and future.

The Prince George's County Historic Sites and Districts Plan, 1992 is scheduled to be amended during FY08-FY10. The amendment will bring the Inventory of Historic Resources up to date to reflect the actions of the Historic Preservation Commission and District Council since 1992; propose additions to the inventory; and identify preservation issues and propose future initiatives, preservation goals, policies, strategies and guidelines. The result will be policy recommendations that inform and reinforce historic preservation goals, policies, and strategies of the 2002 Adopted and Approved General Plan .
