Military Installation Overlay Zone

On September 20, 2016, the County Council, passed CR-70-2016, directing an additional public hearing be scheduled in order to receive further public comment and written testimony on five (5) requested zoning changes within the proposed Military Installation Overlay (M-I-O) Zone.

These rezoning requests were submitted as testimony at the Joint Public Hearing for the Military Installation Overlay Zoning Map Amendment, which was endorsed by the Prince George’s County Planning Board of the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission on May 19, 2016.

On November 10, 2015, the District Council adopted CR-42-2015 creating the Military Installation Overlay Zone.  The MIOZ provides use restrictions, development regulations and permitting requirements in the vicinity of Joint Base Andrews. 

The District Council directed the Planning Board to prepare the Proposed Military Installation Overlay Zoning Map Amendment (MIOZMA) on January 19, 2016 through CR-5-2016.  The Planning Board granted permission to release the Technical Staff Report for public inspection on February 18, 2016 (at 1:12;04 on timeline)
