Delivering a 21st Century County:  Measuring How Prince George’s County Government Improves the Economy, Public Safety, Education and Other Essential Services

This topic will focus on how CountyStat provides strategic analysis on the effectiveness of County government service delivery.  CountyStat employs data analysis to inform decision makers on where and how to target resources and align agency activities to meet service and economic needs in the County.

Benjamin J. Birge is the manager of the CountyStat team located in the Office of the County executive.  Prior to assuming this position in August 2013, Ben served for 19 months as Deputy Budget Director for the Prince George s Office of Management and Budget.  He has over 20 years of experience in the policymaking arena at the local, state and federal levels working in higher education and for the Maryland General Assembly.  He designed several statewide databases to track air and water cargo, court caseloads and college enrollments and designed the state’s only accurate juvenile offender forecasting model.  Originally from the Los Angeles area, he is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma and the University of Virginia.
