Guided Tours

The one-hour guided tour includes the main house, outbuildings, and grounds. The tour focuses on the lives of the free and enslaved 19th century families who sought independence and identity despite the slave codes, law, and societal limitations. Visitors in small groups start their guided tour in the historical law office of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Gabriel Duvall, located just within a few yards of Marietta House. Visitors then experience the main house visiting the private and behind-the-scenes workspaces of the enslaved in the basement kitchen, scullery, and servant stairs, and Duvall family bedrooms. Then visitors explore the formal dining room and parlor where stories of early Federal America build upon stories through the Civil War at Marietta.
