The Commissioners and staff congratulate Prince George’s County Planning Board Vice Chair Dorothy F. Bailey on receiving the “Leadership Achievement Award” from the Women in Business Development Committee of the Prince George’s Chamber of Commerce. The award honors a community and corporate leader who works tirelessly and consistently to make a positive impact in the County. The presentation took place at the Committee’s well-attended Women’s History Month event on March 6, 2018, where Commissioner Bailey also served as keynote speaker. 

Ms. Bailey has an esteemed and unparalleled record of service to the County, region and State as both a community activist and elected official. After working for the Executive Branch of Prince George’s County Government as a senior-level official for several agencies, she was elected in 1994 to the Prince George’s County Council, serving as Vice Chair for three terms and Chair for two terms. 

Commissioner Bailey has been instrumental in founding many noteworthy organizations and initiatives, including the Kiamsha Youth Empowerment Program, the Harlem Remembrance Foundation, and Royal Bafokeng Sister City Friendship Committee. She also serves on the National Executive Council, and serves as chapter president of the Association for the Study of African Life and History (ASALH) and was a member of the local and national boards for the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. She is the author of the award-winning book, “In a Different Light: Reflections and Beauty of Wise Women of Color”, and her invaluable contributions have been acknowledged with hundreds of awards, including induction into the Prince George’s County and Maryland Women’s Halls of Fame.
