“Redefining Active” with M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation
Celebrating Active Aging Week 2019
RIVERDALE, MD – The M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation is joining other agencies and community organizations around the world to celebrate Active Aging Week! This international initiative promotes the benefits of a healthy lifestyle by offering older adults opportunities to experience diverse activities and exercise in a safe, friendly, and fun atmosphere.
The theme of this year’s Active Aging Week is “Redefining Active.” Active aging is about so much more than just exercise. It’s about broader engagement—physically, socially, and mentally. Active aging is about engaging with family, friends and the community to learn and try new things and leading a healthy lifestyle with good nutrition, exercise, and mindfulness.
The Department of Parks and Recreation will offer several FREE activities for Seniors 60 and better at different sites throughout Prince George’s County during the week of September 23–27. From arts and crafts to pickleball and aerobics, the Department has something for everyone’s schedule and lifestyle.
Advance registration is required for most activities and begins on Sunday, September 1. Limited spaces are available. Please see event description in the Active Aging Week Brochure for details. To register for an activity, visit pgparks.com and click on PARKS DIRECT or register in person at any Department of Parks and Recreation facility during operating hours.
