The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission 
Names Bill Tyler as New Director to the Department of Parks and Recreation  

FEBRUARY 10, 2020 - Bill Tyler officially took the helm of the six-time gold-medal award-winning park and recreation agency on Monday, February 10. Tyler comes from the Montgomery County Parks Department, of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), where he served as a Division Chief.

“Beginning a new decade with an organization of this caliber is energizing. I aim to continue pursuing greatness every day,” says Tyler. “I am looking forward to refining and supporting the Department in bringing even better programs, services, and recreation to the residents of Prince George’s County.”

With a career spanning nearly 35 years, Tyler’s experience includes Bureau Chief/Assistant Director of the City of Baltimore; Division Manager of the City of Las Vegas, Department of Leisure Services; Regional Supervisor & Division Chief of Montgomery County Department of Recreation; President and CEO of Tyler Fitness and Associates Personal Training and Fitness; Director of Health Promotion Services, YWCA, Metropolitan Area Executive Director of Bowie YMCA, Metropolitan Area; and the Federal Government: Library of Congress.

“We are thrilled that Bill will assume the helm of our award-winning Department of Parks and Recreation! He possesses extensive knowledge of recreation and parks and his career includes leadership positions spanning across the region and nation,” says Prince George’s Planning Board Chairman, Elizabeth M. Hewlett, of the selection. “He is well suited to the task and will no doubt rise to the occasion,” Hewlett affirms.

A native of North Carolina, with his Bachelor of Science Degree in Counseling Psychology with a minor in Physical Education and Recreation Management from the University of North Carolina, Pembroke. Bill is a member of various professional organizations and committees, including the National Recreation and Parks Association and the Maryland Recreation and Parks Association.
