[ARCHIVED] Prince George's County Planning Board Chairman Issues Statement on Amended Census 2020 Deadline

Census 2020 Oct 14 2020

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Through October 31, 2020

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY PLANNING BOARD CHAIRMAN HEWLETT ISSUES STATEMENT ON AMENDED CENSUS 2020 DEADLINE

Upper Marlboro – October 15, 2020 – Today, Elizabeth M. Hewlett, Chairman of the Prince George’s County Planning Board and Chair of the Prince George’s County Census 2020 Complete Count Committee, released the following statement in response to the revised U.S. 2020 Census deadline of October 15 for self-response and field data collection.

“The newly amended filing date significantly impedes Prince George's County's efforts to achieve an accurate count and impacts the follow up operations with the hard-to-count communities, which include immigrant households, seniors, and homeless populations,” said Chairman Hewlett. "Within our county, the loss for each person not counted equates to approximately $18,250 per person over the course of 10 years. As our communities and economy rebound from the countless hardships created by the COVID-19 pandemic, the estimated 363 million dollars in federal funds could provide the much-needed resources for emergency services, health care, roads, transportation, schools, school lunches, veteran services, WIC, SNAP, public safety and so much more. It is critical for all Prince Georgians to utilize networking communities and platforms today to encourage family, friends and neighbors to complete their household Census forms TODAY, prior to the quickly approaching deadlines. Do it for YOU, your families AND your community!”
