Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month Activities Announced by Dept of Parks & Rec, Pr. Geo. County

Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County, Announces Events for

Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month

Riverdale, MD – In celebration of Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month, M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation in Prince George’s County, Arts and Cultural Heritage Division is hosting events throughout the month of May.  These events feature dance and music performances that highlight the diverse traditions of South Asia, China, the Pacific Islands, and more. Journey with us and learn more about the Asian and Pacific Islander culture. Scheduled activities include:

Opening Reception 

Friday, May 6, 7 – 9:30pm, Newton White Mansion 2708 Enterprise Road, Mitchellville, MD 20721  

Join in the celebration of Asian and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month with a collection of live dance, music and martial arts performances celebrating the diverse heritage and unique contributions of Asian and Pacific Islander communities in the United States. The evening’s lineup highlights the diverse traditions of Southeast Asia, China, Korea, India, and the Pacific Islands and features performances by: Washington Samulnori, Teen World Dancers, Somapa Thai Dance Company, Meki’s Tamure Polynesian Arts Group, Tai Yim Kung Fu School, and more. Children’s hands-on activities presented by Arts on a Roll. All ages, FREE. Please, no strollers allowed. Contact Christel.stevens@pgparks.com

Heritage Festival

Saturday, May 7, 2-6 pm, Southern Area Aquatics and Recreation Complex, 13601 Missouri Avenue, Brandywine MD 20613

Join us as we celebrate the history, culture, music, food, and customs of the Pacific Islands and the continent of Asia through activities, music, games, crafts, contests, and demonstrations. Performance by Meki’s Tamure Polynesian Arts Group. Contact paulette.dicks@pgparks.com
