The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) hosted two epic Summer Soccer Kickoff watch parties in June 2026, bringing all the excitement of the world’s largest soccer tournament to local neighborhoods. Thank you to all partners and attendees who helped make this free event a success.

Edmonston/Riverdale Park

Event Information

To help you make the most of the experience, here are a few tips on what to bring:

  • A chair or blanket for comfortable seating. Some seating will be provided, but it is limited. People are encouraged to stand as well.
  • Sunscreen to stay protected.
  • A reusable water bottle to stay hydrated. June in Maryland is hot! Make sure to bring some water or money to purchase drinks from vendors.
  • Your appetite! Local food vendors will be on site.
  • Your favorite team jersey or colors! Show your team spirit by wearing your favorite team jersey or colors!

What to expect:

  • This event is rain or shine, unless heavy rain or thunder/lightning occurs. Should it be necessary, a cancellation notice will be posted via social media and on our website.
  • This is an outdoor event, so please plan accordingly for the weather.
  • No shade canopies will be allowed as they block the view.
  • Arrive early to grab a good spot.
  • Parking is limited on site, so arrive early! We encourage taking transit, walking, or biking to the location.

Parking and Transportation Information

Fletcher’s Field

By Car: The event area will be accessible only by car from Tanglewood Drive, which can be reached from Riverdale Road in the North and Decatur Street in the South. There are several small parking lots available in Fletcher’s Field. Parking is also allowed on the shoulder of Tanglewood Drive. The entrance to Fletcher’s Field via Kenilworth Ave/201 will be CLOSED. Street parking is also available in nearby neighborhoods.

By Transit: The P14 and P42 Metrobus, which run along Kenilworth Ave/MD 202, stop across the street from the Watch Party Location.

By Bike: The Watch Party is easily accessible by bike via the NE Branch Trail. People biking can exit the NE Branch trail at Decatur Street or Riverdale Road and access the Watch Party via Tanglewood Drive.

Heurich Park

By Car: The main parking space for this Watch Party is available north of Heurich Park near the multipurpose turf field (31ST Bond Rd, Hyattsville, MD 20782). Access to this parking lot is available via Heurich Park Rd. If this parking lot is full, attendees can park on the street nearby. All street parking is free and available to the public. Nearby parking lots are for apartment tenants, schools, and churches only; do not park in these lots.

By Transit: The West Hyattsville and Hyattsville Crossing Green Line stations are near the Watch Party location. From West Hyattsville Station, it is a 0.5-mile (15-minute) walk, and from Hyattsville Crossing, it is a 0.9-mile (20-minute) walk. The P32 Metrobus, which runs along Ager Road, stops at the intersection of Ager Road and Nicholson Street.

By Bike: The Watch Party is near the NW Branch Trail and easily accessible by bike.

Youth Soccer Tournaments

Thank you to all of our youth soccer players and their families for making these events successful. Registration was co-ed and open to ages 6–14.

Edmonston

Youth tournament, June 11, 2026. The tournament began right after the Mexico vs. South Africa game with short group-stage games, then single-elimination games, crowning a champion for each age group!  

Hyattsville

Youth tournament, June 27, 2026. Before the youth tournament there was a short clinic to work on passing, dribbling, and shooting. Then, children were split into age groups and played quick elimination games to crown a champion.
