Project Summary

The Northern Prince George’s East-West Bikeway Feasibility Study conducted a review of a two-mile segment of a proposed 10-mile bikeway corridor by assessing existing conditions, receiving input from affected public agencies and the public, identifying challenges, developing conceptual designs, and proposing recommendations including possible next steps.

Background

The Prince George’s County Planning Department submitted a Transportation and Land Use Connections grant application to the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (MWCOG) to conduct a feasibility study of a proposed 10-mile east-west bikeway corridor between Lanham and Lewisdale, in March 2025. This proposal, named the Northern Prince Geroge’s East-West Bikeway (NPGEWB), is intended to address a long-expressed community desire to construct a bikeway that would provide access between the Washington, Baltimore & Annapolis Trail and three Anacostia River tributary trails. In May 2025, the MWCOG Board of Directors awarded the Planning Department $80,000 in consultant funding to conduct a feasibility study on a two-mile segment of the NPGEWB.

Objectives

• Access existing conditions, solicit input from public agencies and the general public, and identify challenges.
• Provide conceptual bikeway designs, cost estimates, and recommended next steps.
