Past Public Charrette
A public charrette for the Northern Prince George’s East-West Bikeway Feasibility Study was held on Monday, April 20, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at the Park and Recreation Administration Auditorium in Riverdale Park, MD. The session provided an opportunity for public review and comment as the County continues work on the 2-mile bikeway feasibility study, which was due on June 30, 2026.
Project Summary
The Northern Prince George’s East West Bikeway Feasibility Study objective was to review a two-mile segment of a proposed ten-mile bikeway corridor by assessing existing conditions, receiving input from affected public agencies and the public, identifying challenges, developing conceptual designs, and submitting recommendations including possible next steps.
Background
The Prince George’s County Planning Department submitted a Transportation and Land Use Connections grant application to the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (MWCOG) to conduct a feasibility study of a proposed ten-mile east west bikeway corridor between Lanham and Lewisdale, in March 2025. This proposal, named the Northern Prince Geroge’s East West Bikeway (NPGEWB), is intended to address a long expressed community desire to construct a bikeway that would provide access between the Washington, Baltimore & Annapolis Trail and three Anacostia River tributary trails. In May 2025, the MWCOG Board of Directors awarded the Planning Department $80,000 in consultant funding to conduct a feasibility study on a two-mile segment of the NPGEWB.
