Overview of the New Division
Performance Metrics and Continuous Improvement
One of the key functions of the Intake and Regulatory Review Division is to track and report performance metrics. This includes:
- Monitoring application review timelines
- Identifying bottlenecks and inefficiencies
- Using data to drive improvements and accountability
The data monitored will help to enhance service delivery, allocation of resources, and ensure transparency in operations.
Focus on Streamlining and Innovation
The creation of this division reflects an increased focus on streamlining current processes and planning ahead for future improvements. By consolidating related functions, we aim to:
- Reduce redundancies and duplication of effort
- Improve internal communication and coordination
- Offer a more seamless experience to the public
We are also actively identifying new opportunities for process improvement, including technology upgrades, workflow automation, and better integration with partner agencies. This new division integrates three key services under the following sections:
By aligning these services, Prince George’s County Planning Department creates a more streamlined, coordinated process that makes it easier to access information, submit applications, and move projects forward with certainty.
Planning Information Services
Our Planning Information Services team offers expert guidance when researching planning and zoning information for properties within Prince George’s County. If there are any questions on planning related matters, this is the team for you to contact. Whether you’re a resident seeking basic zoning details or a developer with complex inquiries, our staff are here to assist. In-person walk-ins at M-NCPPC Largo Headquarters, virtual meetings and appointments are available.
Applications
For better customer service experience with the development review process, a new digital platform—Development Application Review Tracking System (DARTS) will be part of IRRD. The tools and features currently available in the Development Activity Monitoring System (DAMS) will be replaced by a more modern and user-friendly Customer Self-Service (CSS) portal..
These enhancements in DARTS are designed to:
- Improve access to development activity data through a cloud-based system
- Provide consistent, real-time updates
- Streamline the submission and tracking of applications
Permit Review
The Permit Review Section will administer the review of compliance with the adopted Prince George’s County Zoning Ordinance on development review plans for grading, building construction, signage, or use permits. Under this Section of IRRD, the Prince George’s County Planning Department reviews each application and provides feedback/comments per the adopted Zoning Ordinance to applicants. This input is also shared with the County Department of Permitting, Inspections and Enforcement, the agency responsible for the review and final approval of permit applications.
The ultimate goal of this Section of IRRD is to help applicants navigate the permit process efficiently, while ensuring compliance with County regulations to support safe and responsible development.
Moving Forward
As we roll out these improvements, we remain committed to keeping you informed and supported every step of the way. The Intake and Regulatory Review Division is your partner in navigating planning, zoning, and planning development review in Prince George’s County.
