Route Rules

Route Rules

  1. This isn’t a race – there is no start or finish line. You can start wherever you’d like and explore the event as you’d like. We recommend you visit all the amazing hubs and fill your day with fun!
  2. Maintain a safe speed while on the route and be mindful of others. If you’re biking, scooting, running, skateboarding, etc., please be conscious and courteous to others around you. Some people may not move in a straight line, so make sure you’re aware of your surroundings.
  3. People powered vehicles only in the specially marked lane! This event encourages you to walk, bike, scoot, skate, roll, etc. However, we do not allow motorcycles, segways, mopeds, cars, or other excessively fast-moving vehicles in the lane closures. Electric bikes, scooters, and skateboards are allowed, but please keep a slow speed.
  4. Try not to stop in the middle of the lane closures while walking, biking, or rolling. The lane closure space where people can move between Activity Hubs is approximately 10 feet wide, and we need to accommodate everyone trying to move freely on the road. If you run into a friend, need water, or need a break, we recommend you pull off onto the sidewalk.
  5. Wear a helmet! We want to make sure everyone stays safe at Love My Largo, so if you’re planning to ride a bike, scooter, skateboard, etc., we highly recommend you wear a helmet.

Building Community in Largo

Largo is a growing community and a major goal of Love My Largo is to encourage everyone in the Greater DMV region to experience Largo through a fun, family-friendly activity. Love My Largo will highlight numerous local organizations and include Prince George’s County departments and agencies that participants can engage with and build lasting connections.

Creating Safer Streets

A key goal of Love My Largo is to highlight upcoming roadway improvements along Lottsford Road in Largo. A “road diet” is planned on Lottsford Rd, where Prince George’s County is planning to improve roadway safety for all users by reducing a single travel lane in both directions. During Love My Largo, this lane of Lottsford Road will be closed to envision how a safer Lottsford Road will look and feel.

Promoting Future Projects and Planning Efforts

Amazing things are coming to Largo in the future and Love My Largo is all about building excitement for those projects and planning efforts! Specifically, the Civic Plaza project at Wayne K. Curry will begin breaking ground shortly after Love My Largo, and this event will also promote the goals and recommendations highlighted in the Downtown Largo Placemaking, Branding, and Wayfinding Strategy.
